As Christians, any of us know what it is to be tired. Now you may not admit it because it doesn't sound spiritual but if you were honest, it can be tiring being a follower of Jesus because you often have to be isolated. We all live lives that intersect with those who don't share our faith. We often have to change places or habits or things that were very comfortable for you back in the day when you were in the world and it looks like the sinners are having the fun and you aren't. Using the Book of Hebrews as his backdrop, Tony Evans says through it all, the Lord wants us to endure because the eternal reward will far surpass the struggle.

The Promise of His Blood (Hebrews 9:1 - 10:10) - We have a high priest who ministers to us and His name is Jesus Christ. He mediates a better covenant between us and the Father. He says, "I will write my laws on their hearts." The high priest enters the Most Holy Place once a year with blood. Christ entered the true holy place once for all by his own blood.

The Story of Faith (Hebrews 10:20-39) - The old Law is but a shadow and does not represent this present reality. The reason for this is that animal blood cannot take away sins, and so this inferior sacrifice never lasts. As Tony Evans reminds us, Christ offered one sacrifice forever so it is permanent, so let us hold fast to our hope.

The Faith Hall of Fame (Hebrews 11:1-12) - Faith is the proof of hope, made evident by "a great cloud of witnesses," who demonstrated that God's approval could be attained by great faith. A list of Old Testament characters who witnessed the greatness and providence of God because of their own genuine faith are listed.

The Perfecting of Faith (Hebrews 11:13-12:3) - The list of witnesses continues, as true faith is illustrated in their lives. Faith itself is acting like God is telling the truth, made evident in your attitude, the words you speak, and the actions you take. These witnesses would not receive the promise of their faith until it was perfected through us in Christ.

The Unshakeable Kingdom (Hebrews 12:4-29) - Therefore, with the same faith demonstrated by the great cloud of witnesses, let us run the race, looking to Jesus. God disciplines us as a father disciplines sons and daughters. See that no one falls short of grace. Let us worship in awe and never give up in our trust of God.

Keep Going! (Hebrews 13:1-25) - Consider the ways we, as believers, live out this great faith we possess. Be hospitable with one another. Stay strong in Christ's teachings. Marriage should be honored. Let us bear the shame that He experienced on the cross as ones who seek to follow Him in all our ways.
