Eternity: Understanding Life After Death

Eternity: Understanding Life After Death

Heaven may not be what you think it is.

We often think of heaven in two extremes: It's either a dreamy existence where we float around on clouds with nothing much to do, or it’s something far off in the future that we don’t want to happen until we accomplish all we want to in this life.

Both of these are flat-out wrong, and Tony Evans looks to Scripture to set the record straight. Simple and straight-forward, Eternity is a short book on what eternity with God will really be like.

"God hasn't told us everything [about heaven]," writes Evans, "but Scripture gives us enough glimpses and enough promises about heaven for us to know we don't want to miss this place of eternal joy."

Walk through Scripture with Evans as he plainly explains what heaven is like, who will be there, and what they'll be doing. With engaging illustrations and practical insights, you'll know what awaits believers forever and how that matters for life today.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Place We Long To BeJune 25, 2016

None of us will live forever, but when the end comes, then what? This little book wants to answer that question and more.

This is a very small volume that can be read in one sitting. It is Biblically based, and gives lots of answers for life after death. Dr. Evans addresses such questions as whether or not we will recognize each other in heaven, what we will do there, and what it will be like.

He makes it clear that Heaven is an actual place. Most importantly, he also tells us what we need to do to get to Heaven: trust Jesus, and ask him into our lives. There are many pages towards the back of the book devoted to making sure the reader knows how to be sure of going to Heaven. A portion of the book is also devoted to Hell, and, just like Heaven, it is a very real place.

Because Eternity is a small book, it is easy to read and re-read, as well as, thumb through looking for a specific topic. The author backs up his work with Biblical references. I did not draw the same conclusion as the author about the tree of life. However, as Dr. Evans states, there is only a "possible answer" for that question. This volume is easy to read, and encouraging. I recommend this 5-star book for anyone who wonders about life after death, has questions about Heaven, or is grieving the loss of someone.
5.0 out of 5 stars Detailed description backed up by Biblical factsApril 30, 2016

I was surprised when this book arrived in the mail. It is a very small, thin, book and only has about 80 pages. However, there are a lot of thought-provoking ideas within the pages.

I appreciated the detailed explanation about what believers can expect heaven to be like. Certainly it is something that all believers already eagerly anticipate seeing. I also really appreciated the way that Evans backed up his description about what to expect in heaven with references to what the Bible says about heaven.

A surprising effect of this book is the way that it motivated me to tell others about heaven, especially loved ones who are not believers. The thought of them missing out is too painful to contemplate.

If you have questions about what heaven will be like, this is the book for you. It provides a Biblically-based description of what we can expect and answers a lot of questions that I had and that I have heard others ask over the years.
5.0 out of 5 stars Eternity is a LONG time - where do you want to spend itApril 4, 2016

Eternity: Understanding Life After Death by Tony Evans is a short, although very informative book based on biblical scripture on what we have to look forward to after death. Depending on rather we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior or not. I've found myself drawn to so many of these type books lately, after sitting by Mother's bedside, and watching her suffer, as she was dying from cancer.

One of my favorite quotes from this book is...
"we are in the land of the dying on our way to the living" page 7
I love that and it is so true!

Pastor Tony Evans has used biblical scripture to describe both Heaven and hell. He also explains how to know that you are on your way to Heaven. This is a quick read and easy to understand, for anyone.

This is something we can't afford to get wrong, eternity is a long time! I have both family and friends that believe I am nuts for my believes. But if I am wrong about God, I have only wasted my life, if the non-believers are wrong they have wasted ETERNITY! It is each person's right to choose for themselves their path and where they want to spend eternity.

Another quote from this book that I loved regarding this topic says...
"Forever is too long to miss Christ. Eternity is a long time to suffer torment and the pain of regret. For Christians, this life is the only hell they will ever know. But for non-Christians, this life is the only Heaven they will ever know." page 12
Gives you something to think about doesn't it?

PLEASE I ask all of my family, friends, and even people I don't know, give this some thought on where and how you want to spend eternity.
I highly recommend this book to everyone, for like it or not, we all are going to spend eternity somewhere. It is up to each of us to decide where that will be.
